as we have lot of new blood now in the group, and some of them asked about what / how can they contribute to Telugu world.
Here is an idea...
If we can make a Telugu text (unicode) to speach engine it will be great contribution to Telugu people.
Here are some of the scenarios where this can be used:
1. Stand alone application a. User Installs provided Telugu text to speach engine (Let us call it with code name andhra vaaNi ) application. b. he copy pastes some text into provided text box c. He can click on a button which will start reading the text. d. he can choose between woman / man voice, he can increase/decrease frequency and other options.
2. Integration with blogs: a. a blog can include optional image/JS b. when clicked it will take us to another web site (andhra vaani . org ? ) and starts reading the text to the user from the blog a.
lot more, but we need a working nice engine to achieve this.
The Idea is *Sounding* Great. Before developing this S/W. CDAC has already developed this software for Hindi. It's freely available in CDAC-CD Pack/Can Download from ildc.in .It reads a Hindi text file(I didn't remebered whether it work's with telugu but It should work for all Indian languages because of their similarity otherwise we can make it. I will Check ) and Converts that text to Speech. Integration with blogs can be achieved with Flash /Activex Component.
> as we have lot of new blood now in the group, and some of them asked about > what / how can they contribute to Telugu world.

"festival-te is a Free Telugu language text-to-speech system based on Festival TTS synthesizer available under GPL. It accepts Telugu Unicode text (in UTF-8 encoding) as input and speaks out the text."
