Subject: MSSC Domain Name
Hey MSSC!

This past Friday a small group of us met to talk about this summer
activities and the future of the MSSC. One topic of discussion was the
issue of a website for the group. What we need is a domain name for
the website that represents the MSSC and is short and easy to
remember. Many of the names we thought of are already taken so we have
come up with the two below.

1. greenmi.org
2. micoalition.org

Please vote for one of these two names or submit another- but make
sure that if you do you check too see if it has already been taken.
Some members will be meeting this Thursday to work on the website so
please reply by then. Thanks so much and have a wonderful Monday!

Danielle

Thanks Danielle for posting the domain names.

After the meeting I continued to dwell on the domain name issue. I
encourage others to think about other options as this will be an image
for MSSC. A website is our greatest venue for outreach and education.

Although the options are good. I do not feel they really represent
what we are all about. We talked about some of these issues at the
meeting, but I would like to reiterate them for others. I see MSSC as
trying to make positive change, economic, environmental, and social.
We have many angles.

1. greenmi.org: To narrow MSSC down to "greenmi.org" is not giving
ourselves enough credit. To me "green" it relates to the overused
environmental slang that has been used for greenwashing.

2. micoalitionorg: This can be mispronounced and misunderstood.
example: mycoalition.org -we don't want people to be confused and we
want it to be easy to say on the radio or in an interview.

I am partial to renewmichigan.org. I checked register.com and it is
not a current domain name.

The word "renew" is very powerful in the sense of positive change. It
can not be interpreted in any other way and can incorporate all of our
campaigns. We could still keep our Renew Michigan lobby campaign.
Confusing? Maybe, but most people will not know which one came first.
Maybe we named the campaign after our domain. We can still have
separate links to each campaign on the website so confusion could be
cleared at this point. The Renew Michigan lobby campaign represents
the MSSC mission and I feel it would be appropriate to have the same
name. (or change the name of the lobby campaign?!?)

I would prefer to have MSSC represented by the word renewal, a broader
greater cause, then limiting our image to "green". (even if we have a
campaign with the same name)

Other open domain names...
1.  newmichigan.org
2.  michiganstudents.org
3.  coalitionofmichigan.org
4.  msscoalition.org
5.  sustainmichigan.org

peace
Emily
