Subject: Urgent: Action Needed to Support Divestment from Sudan
Dear friends of Damanga,

Please find below an Action Alert from the Sudan Divestment Taskforce,
with whom Damanga has been working to support divestment in Virginia.
If you live in Virginia or you know people who do, please help spread
the word.  We need every bit of support we can muster to help put
increasing pressure on the government of Sudan.

You can find more information about our work on the divestment
campaign, as well as recent human rights reports and press releases,
and news about our recent and upcoming events, at our website: http://
www.damanga.org

Thanks so much for your support of the people of Darfur.

Best,
Benson Wilder
Coordinator

SB 1331 Passes Senate...  Help Needed to Pass House!

Greetings!

On Wednesday, SB 1331 unanimously passed the Virginia Senate and was
sent to the House. Now SB 1331 will be heard in the same House
committee in which its companion piece, House Bill 1828, was tabled
last month. Therefore, we need to double our efforts in putting
pressure on the House.

Please contact the members (listed below) of the House Appropriations
Committee and its subcommittee on Compensation and Retirement by
Tuesday morning.

Action: Call the committee chairmen and urge them to support SB 1331.
Please call before Tuesday morning, February 13, 2007. Feel free to
leave a message over the weekend.

Tell the chairmen you are a resident of Virginia and do not want state
dollars helping to fund the genocide in Darfur.

If you have the time, please contact the other committee members, also
listed below, and urge them to support SB 1331.

House Subcommittee on Compensation and Retirement:
Chair, Delegate Lacey E. Putney (I)
(804) 698-1019

House Committee on Appropriations:
Chair, Delegate Vincent F. Callahan (R)
(804) 698-1034

Delegate Robert Tata (R)
(804) 698-1085

Delegate Riley E. Ingram (R)
(804) 698-1062

Delegate Clarke N. Hogan (R)
(804) 698-1060

Delegate Johnny S. Joannou (I)
(804) 698-1079

Delegate Onzlee Ware (D)
(Delegate Ware is the only member to confirm support, please thank
him) (804) 698-1011

Best,
