Hi everyone,

time to plumb the collective wisdom of this group. Got this inquiry from a friend ... any thoughts?

Christ's peace,

Plumpy-Nut fits exactly in something I am writing. But as I check it out on the Internet I see that it is patented by Nutriset and that company chooses which countries it will license to produce it.

Sounds -- you should pardon the expression -- nuts!

Before I write about it, I wonder what your take on it is. Could little children in our country collect pennies and send them to the address on your website with the expectation of tiny, starving children being fed this amazing compound?

Thanks for your help,

Interesting question. This article
http://www.thedoctorweighsin.com/journal/2008/1/30/plumpynut.html had some
good comments at the bottom. The one about allergies does give one pause.

This article brings up another consideration:
http://globalhealthreport.blogspot.com/2008/05/demand-for-plumpynut-o...
s-supply.html  If there's so much demand, how come our government has been
paying out billions of dollars in subsidies to peanut farmers? I understand
that Rep.Terry Everett (R-Alabama) longtime chief supporter of the subsidy,
is planning to retire. That might help.

It seems to me we would need a lot more plumpynut research before we got too
involved. Best we not do it with pennies anyhow; wouldn't want to compete
with the Church Periodical Club, would we?

Blessings,

Evelyn

Strange. I'd replied yesterday but it hasn't appeared. Here are my
main points:
Nutriset claims that net profit is reinvested in research, but I've
been unable to determine how "net" their "net" is. (I.e., Michel
Lescanne may or may not be socially responsible when it comes to his
own paycheck.)
There was a Wall Street Journal article on PlumpyNut/Nutriset in April
(possibly March) 2005, but I don't have access to it, just saw a
reference.
At any rate, Christine Gorman has another blog, Patents and Peanut
Butter," at http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/pbpatent/ that provides more
conversation on the matter. It refers to other formulations for
similar products.
My personal take? It's best for EGR to steer clear of fundraising for
this commercial enterprise.
Although I do get a chuckle picturing a short, rotund sidekick for
Planters' Mr. PeanutŪ,..
